The local sheriff of Dead River, Maine, thought he had killed them off ten years ago -- a primitive, cave-dwelling tribe of cannibalistic savages. But somehow the clan survived. To breed. To hunt. To kill and eat. And now the peaceful residents of this isolated town are fighting for their lives...

Has some interesting things to say, and some fresh ideas to try out, but ultimately is an underwhelming gore-fest that's poorly acted and poorly filmed. _Final rating:★★ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._

**The most shocking about this film is that Jack Ketchum wrote this film... ** But in the end I suppose a really bad director can manage to screw up a good script (not that I would say that this one has many tells of being a good script but that's beyond the point). It's overall just very amateurishly made and it only gets remotely interesting when Polyanna McKintosh comes into the picture at 30 minutes in but even then it's not all that much. 'Offspring (2009)' is a predecessor to the far more known (and far more better) 'The Woman (2011)' where Polyanna McKintosh plays the title-role. Saying this I know that it will probably attract some people who've seen and liked 'The Woman (2011)' to want to see it now not knowing that it was a sequel, just as I was. But you should then know that you get no deeper look into the character and where she comes from or anything so don't fall into that 'trap' cause it truly and literally is not even half as good as 'The Woman (2011)' so you're not missing out on anything. If it wasn't for some shock value scenes and the extremely loud chime bell sounds that randomly shows up chances are I'd fallen asleep watching it, avoid.
